WIP Trying to Learn Oil Painting

A challenge for me, I've been trying to learn the ins and outs of oil painting. Oh boy, I'm not sure I like the paints, the fumes, and the mess. I'm determined to sort that all out though, as I have friends who want to learn how to oil paint, and they already had their supplies. This is what I have going with this painting so far, and yes I'm using an instructional book to do this. There's a lot to do with this, but here's where I'm at so far. I can see I need to fatten the tops of the reflected trees in the pond, but so far it's not too bad. There's the tree leaves to fill out, the ground and foreground to complete, and then the water to add the finishing touches to. I'm also working on an oil painting from a photograph, and I can see I really need to fix the mountains in the background. I will share that later.

Box of Pears - Work in Progress

A box of pears, no, not for canning... a painting...lol. Here's my start, I'm about a third of the way there. I had to stop a couple of times as the floor downstairs is linoleum on pavement, so my feet were freezing! We've had single digit temperatures at night and the heat comes out of the ceiling in the basement, so the floor doesn't get a chance to warm up. I tried to put a rug down, but that wasn't too helpful. So I'm whining and feeling somewhat like a poor artist.... this too shall pass, right? I would move the easel upstairs, but there's really no room. Tomorrow I will try the portable heater and see if it helps with the floor. Monday Madness- Work in Progress

I made a mad dash into the studio to put the first part of a new painting on canvas. It's only about 3 above here so I don't have time to stay and chat, but I had to share, and I wonder if you can guess what this painting will be of? It will be fun to see the guesses. Mother and child WIP continues...

 I have a head now, yay! Not perfect yet, but on the way. I've discovered that the fore arms will have to be made of something other than gourds, they weren't working out, but hey, that's what the creative process involves, learning and changing an approach.

No, my house doesn't have stuff laying all over, the soup can props her body so she can dry over the air vent. See how big she is? I better get cracking here, she's still got a ways to go and I have two weeks to do this in.

Teenie Tiny Topsy Bunny WIP

I'm trying to make a mad dash in to share one of my latest WIP's. We shall see if blogger cooperates. :-) This roly poly little bunny is about 4" tall. I have a little chicklet that's waiting for it's ruffle but I will wait until the twins are down for a nap again. I'm even thinking of a little kitty in this style. These are so much fun to make that I may end up using all my egg shapes to create more, perhaps a puppy as well? I'll keep you posted. What are you working on right now?

A Fishy WIP

Sometimes you see something so cool you want to try to make it for yourself. A dear friend and I are working on a fish wall hanging for her as she saw one she fell in love with. We put this one together as a team, but she wants to make another one with me just supervising. It will be fun to see what she ends up with. This handsome salmon will be sectioned where the deep lines are and hung from copper wire with beads and driftwood between each section. We are waiting for the top to dry enough to flip this over and take the mold out so the back can dry. We call ourselves the 2 Portugees as we both have Portuguese ancestors. Who woulda thought I could come to Oregon and meet someone I could call my sister in blood....lol.

Traveling Doll WIP for PWGL

Sculpting is such a relaxing activity, I wish I had discovered it a long time ago.  I continue on with this doll nervously, because I've never been involved in a joint venture like this. As I've tried to make both eyes and sides of the mouth look the same, I had a bit of a vision of God or one of His angels sitting sculpting the next face to be born.

Have you ever considered that we came from a mold or a combination of facial styles that are part of a portfolio of faces? Has anyone ever said that you resemble a certain actor or singer or someone famous? Way back in the early 80's people used to say I looked like Melissa Manchester. When I look at photos of her now I see how refined her nose is compared to mine, her teeth are prettier, and well, we certainly didn't age the same.

I was also compared to Barbara Streisand lol!!!!! Really? Well okay, back then I had the same hair style she did. Well, it's off to fix a bottle and get some work done....have a great day...

Another WIP

Darling isn't she, hee, hee! This little witch will be finished by next week, I hope. :-)

Here's a close up of her toothy grin. She sits at home awaiting her finishing touches while I tend little darlings here at their home. It's time for me to track down Wesley. He was off on a mission to the bedroom, and who knows what mischief he will find when he gets there. Thank goodness Kelcie is still in the pre-crawling stage or I would be chasing both of them. Oh my I see the gate isn't on the stairs yet. Gotta go!!!!

WIP Candy Cane Santa almost done....

Slow going here as my time has been really limited but I'm determined to get ahead and stay ahead. So here he is, a very fun, but difficult to paint Santa as trying to get around those curves is challenging. I still need to antique and seal him, but other than that, he is done! Whew! WIP Queen of Hearts

Creating a doll is not as easy as it would seem if you try and make your own pattern. Art is ever a learning process and that's half of the fun! This Queen of Hearts is a little bit prim, a little bit vintage with a retro twist. Prim in design with a vintage retro skirt of dotted swiss fabric. Do they even make dotted swiss fabric anymore? I found a couple of small pieces of the fabric, not large enough to do anything really big, but it is so cool I couldn't pass it up. Oh, the joy of the hunt when visiting a soroptomists store or other thrift venue.
This queenly lady has a hand painted face. The tall collar isn't attached yet, thus it isn't standing the way I would like, but she is as they say, still a work in progress. What are you working on today?
