 When we lived at Fairchild AFB outside of Spokane, Washington, Mom decided to have a turquoise themed Christmas. We had just moved from Taiwan, where they had picked up furniture and drapes with teal and turquoise in them. So Mom melted down some crayons and made the prettiest turquoise candles that she topped with whipped paraffin "snow". I loved the colors we had that year, which is what inspired me to created this Santa. This Santa is made of Wallowa Lake driftwood and clay. You can find him in my etsy shop: MothersDreamRtworks

Whew! Catching Up On Santa Business!

 First off I would like to say I love Apple care! They figured out the issue with my slower than a snail internet and it's humming like I've never seen it. The poor Verizon fellas got a good work out as we tried various ways to get me on line, but it all had to do with a couple of folders on my new mac that really weren't necessary and mucked up things.

 So I'm a happy camper as I'm back on line and can share my new creations, as well as say hi.

He has waited for a couple of years to be finished. Sometimes, it's a matter of patience.

I've had this piece of driftwood from Alaska for years. I had originally hand painted him with simple details, but he was whispering in his good Father Christmas voice that he wanted a bit more.  Marvin the Moon, created on an antique textile bobbin, his head is hand sculpted and everything is hand painted with a spooky or night time theme.

A nice slab of Ponderosa pine bark was the inspiration for this Santa wall hanging. His facial features were hand sculpted. He has been hand painted and dusted with vintage mica "snow" flakes.

We Three Santas......

 As cool as it has been today you would think that we were headed for winter again, instead of just getting ready to hit summer. It's been raining buckets, which put the kibosh on our fishing plans, so I'm painting my bathroom and finishing up Santa pieces. This Santa is made from a banana gourd, and comes bearing gifts.

Well I need to go shower and get some in town chores done and then it's back to painting my bathroom. I hope the rain takes a break so I can go cover my garden boxes and get my tomatoes ready for tonight. It's promising to be pretty chilly and they are in need of covering as well.

 I was walking on the beach one day, and much to my surprise...

 a piece of driftwood called to me, and looked me in the eye!

I saw a familiar face on it, and picked it up to see....
if that was really Santa, looking back at me.
As you can see he surely was, so home to work we went..
So you see that he's become that friendly jolly gent!

Primitive Vintage Victorian Style Folk Art Driftwood Santa

I have a confession to make. I'm one of those folks who find it very annoying to see Christmas decor up in stores before we've celebrated Thanksgiving. I know, I know, sounds contradictory doesn't it? Lol. Yes, in some ways it is, but I so love the colors and feel of Autumn and harvest time, that I want to savor it as much as possible. My heart swells at the sight of freshly harvested fields, pumpkins stacked on porches, warm apple cider steaming in mugs.
Sure, I have been creating Christmas art for months now, but due to the nature of the buying public, and the need to be ahead of the game, I must do what I do. So being the accommodating person that I am, I will be offering a multitude of Santa pieces on ebay as well as etsy and Reasons to Believe . As a matter of fact, all three places have some of my newest creations available. So take a moment if you would, grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and wander off to take a peek at my newest offerings. So many things to share, so little time, and a chance to win!

 The second of three posts today, I'm trying to squeeze in computer duties with sculpting. It's been crazy busy here and there, which means I'm busy at home and at the in-laws. I've sequestered myself into my apartment to get ready for a show at the Nugget here in Wendover this Saturday, so snowman heads are popping up all over, little Santa figures are coming to life, as well as an angel or two. I've need to share though that I have the Santa above on ebay right now. The auction ends on Saturday.

Tuesday's WIPS there's no more room on my work table...

 I think they are about to run me out of my work room here, some are missing eyebrows, some faces, some are done, but all are feeling a bit crowded. I know I sure am, along with the waning evening light and one little light bulb to help me, I guess it's time to stop for now.

 Doesn't this jolly Santa have a look of anticipation for the coming season? I hope I can capture his twinkle when I paint him.

 Eeeek, alien Santa! Well actually he's just waiting for the next step, but he's in drying mode right now. The spool Santa hasn't told me yet whether he should have arms or not. He better hurry though as I'm getting a bit impatient to get things done!

And these two are commiserating a take-over I can tell..... I wonder if I turn out the light.....

A Country Style Santa, or is that Primitive, Rustic, Northwoods?

 I googled Northwoods Santas and guess what?! My Santa listing on Reasons to Believe came up top of the list. Wow! I'm going to have to give Scott a high five for that one! Anyhew.... Santas come in all sorts of shapes and styles. Fat, skinny, tall short, round, smiling or serious, or even frowning!

Color themes vary from  the ever popular red and green, to purple and gold, blue and white and all shades in between. This Santa has a touch of Victorian with his long robe and flocked greenery, but goes country with the leather belt and homespun ribbon on the wreath. He's a bit rustic  with his wired on arms, and Northwoods with the vine wreath and birdhouse with cardinal, as well as the driftwood he's made of. So no matter your Christmas style, this handsome fella will fit in well. He stands 19 inches tall. Wednesday's WIP's Wild Horses and Santas?

 

 Yesterday marked the opening of Chief Joseph Days here in Wallowa County with the Bucking Horse Stampede down main street in Joseph. I had a front row seat of sorts as I was able to set up a table and work on some of my Santa's in front of Missy's Uptown Art Gallery. What fun that was, with all sorts of interesting folks stopping by to watch and chat! It also gave me insight as to what people are thinking about my work. I garnered a couple of potential collectors, and met folks that have already bought a couple of pieces or are interested, so that was a wonderful thing. I will be able to do more demo work on Friday in front of the same gallery, right after the Kiddie Parade, and another gallery wants me to do the same at her place. One of my larger driftwood Santas sold last week, along with a fish wall hanging so I'm raring to get some  more work done. 

Oh, and the horses finally found their way down through town, running through at a "stampede" pace, which was much better than last year, as you can see in the above picture when they seemed to stop to pose for photos in front of the bowling alley....lol.

A 24" tall Wallowa Lake driftwood Santa. His arms are lake wood as well. He was a lot of fun to make. I have some other pieces for the galleries as well but no photos as we had to go! If they like these I will be bringing a load of wood back with me. I'm so glad my hubby loves me. :-)
